How do I install WordPress on my website?

You can install WordPress from cPanel using Softaculous.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Log in to cPanel through your WebhostingNZ client area.

If you are unsure how to access cPanel, please follow this guide first:

How to access cPanel from the Client Area

Step 2: Open Softaculous

In cPanel, click Softaculous Apps Installer.

You may also see WordPress Manager by Softaculous.

Step 3: Choose WordPress

Click WordPress.

Then choose Install.

Step 4: Choose the installation location

Select the domain name you want to install WordPress on.

If you want WordPress to load directly from your domain, leave the directory field blank.

For example:

  • use yourdomain.co.nz for the main website
  • do not enter wp unless you want WordPress installed at yourdomain.co.nz/wp

Step 5: Enter your website details

Enter the site name and site description.

You can usually change these later from inside WordPress.

Step 6: Create the admin login

Choose a secure WordPress admin username and password.

Do not use weak usernames such as:

  • admin
  • administrator
  • your domain name

Use a strong password and keep it somewhere safe.

Step 7: Complete the installation

Click Install and wait for Softaculous to finish.

Once complete, Softaculous will show your WordPress website link and admin login link.

Your WordPress admin area is usually:

https://yourdomain.co.nz/wp-admin/

Important notes

After installing WordPress, keep WordPress, themes, and plugins updated.

We also recommend installing only plugins and themes you actually need.
